This week, winter was unusually kind to us in Toronto. Of course I’m talking about the unseasonably warm temperatures, and I’m sure I wasn’t in the minority of people who made the best of it. Below are each of the looks I wore this week to grocery shop, walk, meet for coffee, and go to work in. Happy scrolling!
MONDAY
Out first look features a cardigan, textured with little antique gold buttons. It’s cotton, which is my preferred textile for knitwear, as it’s resistant to pilling and your girl hates a ratty sweater. Then, I paired it with tights (not pictured) and my favorite wool-blend plaid skirt. I really like how studious a plaid skirt makes me feel, and I think that the cardigan and the gold buttons lent even more to the bookish aesthetic. I finished the look off with my Egg-Butt horsebit (according to my equestrian-inclined sister, it’s really called that) bull leather loafers from Gucci, and my Chanel Double Classic Flap bag. Libraries everywhere are quaking.

TUESDAY
The next look is one of my favorites, as it combines both looks of the city (and any big city in North America, really) and that is the looks of the Girl on the Go mixed with Girl Goes to Work. You know what I mean, I’m sure. I hope! The trouser with the sneaker, the peacoat with the plain T-shirt, and all of the warm colors mix together so nicely. It’s great for running errands and wanting to be comfortable but not *too* comfortable. Plus, the coat swishes around you when you walk like it’s a cape. Whoosh...

WEDNESDAY
My current go-to coffee-grabbing look (weather permitting) features a lined cotton jacket that is the perfect overcoat. The outfit is also dark enough overall that if you accidentally spill coffee on yourself when you’re running home with a coffee tray in your hands full of sloshing drinks, cleanup won’t be so bad. Polished, sophisticated, and classic. Save for the coffee stain.

THURSDAY
Ah, my most comfortable outfit to date. The sweater, loosely tucked into the high-rise jean, which somehow both miraculously cinches my waist but also allows for a whole woollen sweater to be tucked into it. The comfy sneakers give this look a bit of a sporty vibe, but not too sporty with the leather Prada top handle.

FRIDAY
Oh, look, it’s the Gucci loafers again! Yes, there is a sanitary paper towel underneath them to save our lovely new sofa. Here I wore them paired with my high-rise Tencel trousers in a beautifully-versatile sandy beige, topped off with a chunky cotton kit cardigan with, yet again, gold buttons. Those buttons are the One ring and I’m Gollum. Finished with my Chanel Flap, this was a great look to just walk around the city in.

SATURDAY
One of my favorite ways to look effortlessly chic with any outfit is to put a blazer on. With loafers or flats, however, it’s a bit too dressy for some occasions. My occasion happened to be picking something up from a store a few blocks away, so I needed to do some walking. With the sneakers, it’s the perfect ‘Girl on the Go’ look — polished because of the blazer, but still casual because of the sneakers. The Figaro chain, vintage from an estate sale, makes a nice pop against the black for a focal point. The top handle Prada says “I mean business” without saying “I mean to do business”.

SUNDAY
This one is another great ‘put together but still casual’ look, thanks to the sneakers. I wore the cardigan untucked and with the bottom two buttons undone, so it lends the look a bit more shape. Like a lot of curvy women, I tend to look like an egg if I wear something that has no waist definition so I always make sure something is tucked, rolled, cuffed, undone — you get it. The sweater looks so eye-catching with cool brown of the trouser, and the bag and the sneakers (while at odds individually) come together for a distinguished look.
That was my week in clothes! Next time, I’ll post more on-body shots. I’m putting my background together, so stay tuned! As always, thanks for reading,
-Megan
